Bugs

Yesterday i got this very cute forwarded email from pek yiong. It is about a series of soft toys with bacteria/microbes as main theme. Apparently the purpose of this invention is to educate small kids, and i'm sure it definitely serves the purpose well.

I never like microbiology, but this fluffy toy is simply irresistible.

This is the bug for Infectious Mononucleosis, isn't it lovely?

This is the funniest one, chicken pox virus. The appearance tells it all....

This is Plasmodium Falciparum, which cause malaria. I can only remember that it is in banana shape

This is my favorite, Neiserria Gonorrhoea, which supposed to be the naughty nasty bug, but look at this soft toy, especially its eyes, so innocent and cute....

Childhood Game

Can't really remember when did i started playing Theme Hospital. I guess it was during my late primary school time. It was such famous game that almost everyone that i knew was playing that. Why was i such a trend-follower last time? Haha....

For those who have never heard of Theme Hospital, let me do a brief introduction for ya. It is a game for players to build their own desire hospital. There are different level with progressively challenging difficulties. Basically the goal of the game is to achieve certain number of cured patient, total asset and amount of money. All you need to do is to build all the facilities, hire the staff and manage the hospital. Isn't sound easy? only for the few initial stages, after that was horrible

Last week i suddenly thought of this game, so went online to search for it. Really glad that i'm still able to download it. I personally like the character of receptionist in this game. First of all, she doesn't need to rest or request for salary raise. Secondly, she likes to announce funny things with her high pitch voice, something like 'Patients are reminded not to die at the corridor'. Weird huh!

Different stages in the game, like emergency and disaster

Bridge

Bridge of Remembrance, Christchurch

After i introduced the card game 'Bridge' to my flatmates few weeks ago, all of them love it and we have been playing that every weekend since then.

There was so many funny things happened while we played the game. Somebody would crack some lame jokes and somebody would fart continuously. But there was one phenomenal incident that made me laughed hysterically.

The story was......

(In the middle of the game whereby i won the bid and called a card as my friend)

Raenna asked, "wait, mui how, who's your friend again?"
Ah Beh replied instantly as if it was reflex, "James"

The End.

Clinical Skills

This is a programme designed for medical student to learn clinical skills, virtually. It was really fun! So far i had used it to learn venepuncture, IV cannulation, rectal examination, bladder catheterization and arterial blood gas sampling.

Before the procedure starts, it will tell the relevant anatomy that we should pay attention to. Then it will explain what are the indication, contraindication, complication and equipment needed. After all theses 'hassles', we can start learning with well-instructed video and simulation. There are MCQs and simulation test after the learning session.

I heard that it's University of Auckland who developed this programme. I would say it is really beneficial, at least i had learned the proper order to carry out the procedure (if i could remember lah...). To do it on real patient, i still need plenty of confidence.

I still remembered when i injected the local anaesthetic on the hand, i hit slightly next to the correct place, the site instantly swelled, so 'realistic', haha!

Mushroom

Last week i saw this huge mushroom at my flat's backyard. I was really curious about it, so i took a picture of it. From its appearance, it looked pretty poisonous and not safe to be consumed, i guess. This mushroom reminded me of the mushroom from super mario, the red one that if mario eats it, he will become bigger. Miss the game so much.....

A little update of myself: Just finished health care of elderly run, will have one week of clinical skills teaching next week. Had a nice dinner at Cafe Valentino with raenna, chow, beh and jun ken on friday. Wasted the whole weekend with my flatmates playing Bridge. So not going to study till next week, haha!
